SOS for Rospuda Valley!

Welcome Rospuda Valley Defenders,

As some of you may already know, the Polish Prime Minister decided at the last moment not to start the fight with the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and instead halted the logging of the trees in the protected area of the Rospuda Valley.

But it’s not the end the of story and the wildlife of Rospuda Valley can’t feel safe! The Polish goverment still wants to build this bypass and annouced that the works on the sections which do not cross the protected areas will be continued. This is one of the ways to blackmail the EU institutions and disregard the European law. Although it may seem unbelievable, they still want to build this most absurd road in Poland! We cannot let them get away with it now!

Please, appeal to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland to stop the construction work in the Rospuda Valley entirely and commence the process of building the road along an alternative route which is not destructive for the unique plants and animals in this wildlife-rich place. So far 793 people have sent the letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. Join them! Thank you for your support!

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,
 
I learnt that you halted the bulldozers standing in front of the 
Rospuda Valley,  but,  regrettably, you still pursue the plan to build the road through this place, which is so unique for Poland and whole Europe. 
 
As the Head of Polish Government, you are partly responsible for the current situation. Last winter you disregarded the task 
to protect the ecological heritage of Poland and Europe – the 
heritage that belongs neither to this government nor to this generation only. 
 
During the months that have passed since the winter camp in the Rospuda Valley was set up and the time when this case was referred  to the European Court of Justice, you, together with the leaders of other political parties, called people who are trying to stop the useless destruction of the Valley, the ‘enemies of Poland’ or ‘extremists’.
 
During these months the current variant of the Augustów bypass and the Via Baltica route was questioned by the European Commission, the Petition Committee of the European Parliament, the Polish Ombudsman and the Voivodship Administrative Court. The final decision on the case will be taken by European Court of Justice in Luxemburg.

I am not and will never be indifferent towards giving preference to shortsighted political profits over the welfare of nature and 
people. Therefore I call you, again, to:

- immediately stop ignoring opinions of the experts on the route of the express motorway Via Baltica
- support building the bypass of Augustów in the alternative variant that  constitutes a compromise between the needs of Augustów citizens  and  the protection of Polish natural heritage
- revise the development of the transport network plans in Poland.

In the 21st century the development cannot mean the increase of the number of trucks destroying the most pristine areas of Poland and Europe.
 
Everybody can make mistakes, the real wisdom is not to repeat them.
